Chances are, you have no clue what "skinimalism" is. Perhaps you saw the term once or twice scrolling through the fashion and beauty gurus of Pinterest. Or perhaps you have no clue why this blog post was recommended to you.
Ever since the 1920's, the makeup world has boomed rapidly. More colors, more shading, more highlighting, more contouring. All to achieve a "perfect" face that looks exactly the same as the person's next to you. But now, there's a chance that this will fade. That instead of covering up every mark and blemish on our face, we will let it stand out—while still adding the shine and pop of color that we want. That idea is the main force pushing out this new wave: Skinimalism.

Why It's Going To Be "The New Thing"
Prior to the pandemic, there was a lot more hustling around—whether going to work, school, or just going out to have fun, it was a lot harder to take the time to spend a proper amount of time on skincare and perhaps even hygiene.
On top of this, there is no need to wear makeup if you're staying in your home all day. Hence, amidst the virus that kept millions of people confined in their home, less makeup and better skin made its outbreak.
So why not show it off?
What Comes In This "Wave"
Instead of heavy concealer, the most prominent 'foundation' in this new trend is actual skin. Not skin changed and altered by filters, but beautiful skin in all its glory. Acne, blemishes, freckles, scars, all of that is no longer hidden by societal standards for beauty.
Instead, lightweight skincare products like moisturizer and hydrating serums will be the prominent feature in this new look. On top of that, small amounts of color, whether lipstick or eyeshadow, will add the pop that everyone will still want to show off.
If you aren't quite ready to give up your look, that's totally okay! There are no rules. Small amounts of concealer or foundation are perfectly okay, as with some highlighter or even a bit of contouring. The biggest idea behind skinimalism is that your actual skin is shown off—and that is all up to you.
How To Make The Switch
As mentioned, there are no rules to trends such as these. If you hold your concealer and foundation just a bit too close to your heart to give up, no worries!
The first step towards Skinimalism is to focus on skincare if you haven't already. Face masks, moisturizer, nice baths, sugar scrubs, and all of that jazz are of utmost priority to give your beautiful face the love it deserves.

To get some bonus points, make some of these products yourself, of get them from eco-friendly brands. After decades worth of heavy makeup applying, it's time to put more effort into limiting what we put on this planet and on our face. Not only may it be healthier for the planet, but it may be healthier for your face, too!
After you get your skin all beautiful and glowing, don't be afraid to add some vibrant eyeshadow, bold lipstick, or some blush. It's your skin. Show it off how you love.
How This Trend Will Affect The World
As far back as one can see, blemishes, freckles, and acne were always hidden and covered up. How dare someone have completely natural marks on their face?
Anything other than perfectly clear skin was seen as not beautiful. People were judged and mocked, made fun of. People still are.
But with this incoming wave of embracing these marks, it will show that imperfections are perfect. No longer will little girls and boys learn that their face is anything less than beautiful if it's not blemish-free. People will no longer be ashamed to post pictures of themselves without a smooth filter on.
More people will be able to appreciate themselves in all their beauty instead of beating themselves up over the fact that they don't look "as beautiful" as people they see online.
So hopefully, this trend will be so much more than just that—a trend. It will be a lifestyle of learning to appreciate oneself in all of one's glory. And that skin, the skin underneath, the skin that shows who one really is, is so much more important than caking oneself in makeup.
